Les auteurs de Ravel et des choses,Damien Caille-Perret et Laure Bonnet, ont puisé leur inspiration dans le roman Ravel de Jean Echenoz pour se pencher ensuite sur la biographie du compositeur, sa correspondance et ses entretiens. C’est une façon de dresser le portrait de Maurice Ravel, à sa façon : « Le génie, c’est l’intelligence du travail, comment organiser ses idées. » Le texte créé par Damien Caille-Perret éclaire les contours du destin singulier de celui qui composa le populaire Boléro, à travers sa musique, son humour, son âpreté au travail, sa lutte continuelle contre la dépression par la création, sa quête insaisissable de la perfection et sa fin dramatique. L’élève Ravel s’adonne à une composition dont le style personnel bouscule les attentes : « Ravel n’est pas dans l’erreur, il est dans l’hérésie, puisqu’il sait ce qu’il faut faire et choisit de faire ce qu’il fait. » Un rendez-vous scénique avec un homme, sa musique, ses objets familiers et ses souvenirs. Sur le plateau, l’acteur Gaëtan Vourc’h est Ravel, et à ses côtés, le musicien Dayan Korolic.
