En quoi consiste votre travail ?
Dédé Saint Prix : Il s’agit avant tout de canaliser l’énergie de chacun et de dominer les rythmes, les temps forts et faibles. Pour cela, le travail se fait tout d’abord avec un manche à balai et une baguette de batterie. Nous prenons par exemple un proverbe que tout le monde connaît et nous remplaçons les mots par des frappes rythmiques.
Comment réagissent les enfants ?
D. S. P. : Ils sont très réceptifs. Au niveau de la latéralisation, de la synchronisation, de l’indépendance des membres, c’est magique ! Mais ce n’est pas facile : même des musiciens chevronnés peuvent avoir des problèmes avec les exercices que je demande aux enfants. Les plus jeunes se lâchent plus facilement que les adultes, ils sont moins inhibés.
Les rythmes sont partout dans la rue, dans le métro… Est-ce un avantage ?
D. S. P. : Les gens ont tendance à perdre la qualité d’écoute. A partir du moment où ils sont concentrés, tout fonctionne, ils vont à l’essentiel. Le rythme, c’est nous et les autres, nous dans un tout.
La finalité, c’est de les emmener sur scène…
D. S. P. : Oui, mais surtout qu’ils prennent du plaisir à évoluer comme des musiciens professionnels. Mon activité est avant tout basée sur le plaisir : il n’y a pas de sanctions, de premier ou de dernier, chacun avance à son rythme dans un collectif. Ce qui existe trop peu dans la pédagogie classique. Mais en même temps, quand je demande le silence, je dois pouvoir l’avoir tout de suite : je ne suis pas un policier. Pour l’instant, nous maîtrisons bien une mazurka que je chantais depuis tout petit. Dans mon approche, il y a tout qui transpire, c’est aussi une manière de raconter l’histoire antillaise à travers un autre prisme.
