Dix-sept ans… Le temps que l’amour lentement macère les menues indifférences du quotidien et tourne à l’aigre. Le temps d’une vie commune où deux amants finissent par oublier l’ardeur ensemble pour se poser juste côte-à-côte. Le temps que remontent à la surface les mots perdus ou tus à force d’habitude, que s’incrustent les banalités et lieux communs qui depuis longtemps ont noyé le désir de l’échange… Dix-sept ans après la chaleur des premiers feux, « Elle » et « Lui » en sont là : ils se chamaillent dans leur appartement, coincés sur la ligne de front entre deux quartiers belligérants, enfermés dans leur querelle quand le monde croule alentour sous les vents d’une tourmente guerrière. Le sujet prétexte au différend ? La tortue et la limace sont-ils de la même espèce… A-t-il chaud qu’elle a froid immédiatement, et inversement, etc. Voilà, ils en sont là.
Ring conjugal
Pas de situation, ou presque, pas de personnages … Créée en 1962 par Tsilla Chelton et Yves Penaud, la pièce de Ionesco démonte les structures du drame et renvoie l’histoire en hors-champ, qui tapage depuis plusieurs mois à coups d’explosions et autres déflagrations. Le conflit du dehors contamine l’intime, la guérilla conjugale du dedans s’étend à la cité. A moins que l’une ne soit la projection fantasmatique de l’autre ? « Toute histoire est valable lorsqu’elle est transhistorique ; dans l’individuel, on lit l’universel. », soulignait l’auteur dans ses Notes et contre-notes. La mise en scène de Christophe Feutrier, qui a beaucoup travaillé en Russie auprès d’Anatoli Vassiliev, évacue carrément l’individuel en désincarnant la scène de ménage et en insérant les didascalies. Ce parti-pris, souligné par une esthétique minimaliste convenue, déporte le duel vers l’exercice de style sans guère atteindre à l’universel. Coincés sur un petit tréteau en guise de ring, Valérie Dréville et Didier Galas, pourtant comédiens de grand talent, ne parviennent pas vraiment à donner vie au langage ni à cette farce tragique.
