Fidèle à sa veine sociologique – cet engagement respectable qu’est le regard attentif porté sur la misère du monde -, le photographe et journaliste Raymond Depardon a filmé l’activité quotidienne du commissariat du Ve arrondissement parisien (Faits divers,1983) et du service des urgences psychiatriques de L’Hôtel-Dieu (Urgences,1988). La comédienne et metteuse en scène Zabou Breitman, à l’écoute des malaises de notre temps, adapte à son tour pour le plateau Des Gens. Des hommes et des femmes hantés par leur perdition intérieure s’abandonnent à la dérive, de la salle anonyme des pas perdus aux couloirs sonores qui jouxtent le seuil fonctionnel des bureaux administratifs ou des cabinets médicaux. La scénographie transformable de Pierre Nouvel est astucieuse, le regard du spectateur va et vient en même temps que déambule le personnel policier ou médical en blouse blanche ou képi, dans le fond sonore et strident de sirènes d’ambulance et de voitures de pompiers. La foule des personnes extérieures qui pénètrent régulièrement par force ou « librement » ces structures publiques d’« aide sociale » est représentée distinctement par petites touches impressionnistes.
La solitude extrême et l’épreuve de l’absence de parole échangée
Les rencontres se font entre la personne privée et l’institution, le patient et le psychiatre, le « gardé à vue » et le policier. Là est la question, là réside la blessure intime dans la solitude extrême et l’épreuve de l’absence de parole échangée. Pour ces personnes fragilisées par une vie dure, la situation est subie depuis les tréfonds de l’âme jusqu’à ne plus pouvoir être supportée. Ce sont ces chroniques de crise qui sont arrêtées sur le plateau, saisies symboliquement par une caméra ouverte, et auxquelles Zabou Breitman et Laurent Lafitte, tour à tour « victime » ou « réparateur », accordent une énergie, une vivacité et une foi intenses. L’une dit avoir crié et pleuré dans la cave noire d’un immeuble parce qu’elle a perdu sa grand-mère – ce qui a alerté les voisins qui ont fait appel aux forces de l’ordre. Son compagnon rétorque : « On t’a pris ton môme, on l’a foutu à Denfert-Rochereau. » L’autre, suivie régulièrement par son médecin, vogue entre dépressions et périodes plus fastes, entre son mari et la chambre d’hôpital : « J’ai jamais été heureuse, j’ai toujours été sensible, j’en ai après les hommes, je veux rien foutre … C’est ça la vie sur la terre ? » Un conducteur a arrêté son bus sur la place de l’Opéra, incapable de conduire. Tous sont saturés d’insatisfactions vives et de déceptions. Or, ces Gens émouvants, ce pourrait être nous aussi.
