Lorsque, à peine sorti de l’ERAC où il a été formé de 2004 à 2007, Baptiste Amann rassemble des amis de son école autour de la pièce Des territoires (nous sifflerons la Marseillaise) qu’il écrit et met lui-même en scène, l’idée d’une trilogie est loin de l’effleurer. Il souhaite interroger son rapport et celui de sa génération à l’engagement politique. Il crée pour cela une fiction familiale dont les quatre protagonistes principaux – les frères et sœurs Lyn, Benjamin, Hafiz et Sam – sont visités par Condorcet après la mort de leurs parents, alors qu’ils débattent sur le sort de leur pavillon de banlieue. Vendre ou garder ? La création de deux autres épisodes les aidera à trancher.
Trois révolutions en une
À l’occasion du dernier Festival d’Avignon, Baptiste Amann a recréé sa trilogie, dont chaque volet a été conçu séparément. Cette réunion témoigne d’une aventure théâtrale au long cours. Elle donne à voir ses évolutions, tout en soulignant sa cohérence esthétique et ses grandes lignes narratives. Après Condorcet, l’irruption dans le présent de deux autres figures d’un passé plus ou moins proche – Louise Michel puis Djamila Bouhired, figure icônique de la révolution algérienne – nous mène à questionner l’état de l’idéal révolutionnaire aujourd’hui, et sa capacité à faire bouger le présent.
