Roland Auzet et Jérôme Thomas. L’un est percussionniste virtuose, compositeur passé par l’Ircam, apprenti voltigeur à l’école Fratellini et inventeur d’un « cirque technologique et musical ». L’autre est jongleur singulier, gracile un peu fauve, toujours à tarauder les frontières disciplinaires. Deux artistes, deux fortes personnalités, pour un face à face sans compromis. « Nous nous connaissons depuis vingt ans. Nous avons souvent discuté au café de nos créations. Le temps était venu de poursuivre la conversation sur le plateau. » raconte Roland Auzet, associé à l’Espace de arts de Chalon-sur-Saône, où se déroule la création. Une rencontre donc, insolite, forcément. « Nous nous sommes donné pour règle de travailler dans nos univers, justement pour les confronter et les partager. Nous avons beaucoup échangé en amont sur notre rapport au temps, au corps, à l’objet, ainsi que sur nos parcours respectifs, avec les succès et les erreurs. Un vrai travail sensible et critique, qui nous mène au bout de notre vérité ».
Un quartet pour un étonnant duo
Pour chercher un langage en commun, ils ont fusionné leurs outils : ils ont fait fabriquer chez un luthier des instruments-objets, qui peuvent être manipulés tout en produisant des sons. Et pour orchestrer leur tête-à-tête, ils ont demandé à Mathurin Bolze, circassien metteur en scène, de jouer l’arbitre bienveillant, et à Wilfried Wendling d’écouter et d’interpréter en « live » les sons électroniques. En scène, Roland Auzet et Jérôme Thomas ont peu à peu tissé la partition de cet étonnant duo, où la résistance des choses, le caprice des objets et la musique des corps fusent en un dialogue unique.
