Qu’est-ce qui vous a décidé à porter à la scène Bibi, ou les mémoires d’un singe savant ?
Gérard Gelas : Henri Frédéric Blanc, l’auteur de ce roman adapté par Cyril Lecomte, fait partie de ces auteurs du Sud de la France qui réinventent le langage et renouvellent l’écriture. Il est très connu à Marseille, – où il est né en 1954 -, pour sa façon extraordinairement inventive de jouer avec les mots, pour sa langue très originale et son esprit de dérision acéré et irrévérencieux. J’ai beaucoup aimé Bibi, qui met en scène un orang-outan capturé tout jeune sur son île par un capitaine improbable, qui l’emmène dans la ville de Cauchemarseille, située dans le pays de Franculie. Le singe découvre les homo sapiens, s’étonne et met à mal les pouvoirs. Il pointe les dysfonctionnements du monde avec humour, car l’auteur prend le parti d’en rire et non d’en pleurer ! Il s’agit de notre survie, mais abordée avec toute la richesse, la faconde et la générosité de l’auteur.
Qui est l’interprète de la pièce ?
G. G. : Damien Rémy est un comédien rare que je connais depuis près de vingt ans, que j’admire beaucoup et qui a travaillé dans nombre de mes mises en scène – il fut Lorenzo dans Lorenzaccio, Artaud dans Histoire vécue d’Artaud-Mômo, etc. Sans lui, je n’aurais pas créé cette pièce libertaire, qui est vraiment un spectacle pour un comédien !
Le théâtre du Chêne Noir programme aussi Riviera d’Emmanuel Robert Espalieu, créée à l’occasion du Festival. Que raconte cette pièce ?
G. G. : Cette grande pièce d’Emmanuel Robert Espalieu retrace les dernières semaines de la chanteuse Fréhel (1891-1951), alors qu’elle vivait dans un taudis près de la Place Clichy, abandonnée de tous ou presque, complètement abîmée par la drogue et l’alcool. A la fois très réaliste et très onirique, le texte témoigne de sa fin, et fait revivre son grand amour Maurice Chevalier, qui l’avait quittée après une brève liaison. Elle imagine qu’il va venir la chercher pour l’emmener sur la Riviera, mais il ne viendra jamais et elle mourra seule. La pièce plonge dans la solitude de certains êtres au firmament qui se détruisent. Myriam Boyer interprète Fréhel, nous sommes très heureux de cette collaboration. Clément Rouault interprète Maurice Chevalier et Laure Vallès, comédienne issue des ateliers du Chêne Noir, véritable pépinière de jeunes talents, incarne une chanteuse débutante qui vient prendre des cours, et elle figure Fréhel jeune dans les hallucinations de la chanteuse amoureuse. Car la pièce explore aussi un amour absolu, inconditionnel et absolument pas policé.
