L’exposition « 1, 2, 3 Jazz » est l’un des temps forts de la manifestation. Elle retrace à travers photographies, lithographies, livres, pochettes de disques, affiches, etc… l’histoire du jazz en Belgique en prenant comme point de départ l’invention du saxophone par Adolphe Sax en 1846. Autant de documents issus de la collection de Marc Danval, personnalité centrale de la vie du jazz en Belgique, à la fois écrivain, homme de radio, comédien, chroniqueur, graphiste, gastronome, conférencier et animateur culturel… L’ensemble de la manifestation est d’ailleurs conçue comme une carte blanche à ce personnage étonnant, sorte de Boris Vian d’aujourd’hui : « Il nous surprend par son insatiable curiosité, la variété de ses centres d’intérêt, son éclectisme et son époustouflante culture. Dans cette exposition inédite, il nous fait redécouvrir le jazz belge mais aussi ses passions littéraires de Rimbaud à Apollinaire, de Sacha Guitry à Boris Vian » souligne Jean-Noël Bloom, commissaire et coordinateur de l’exposition. Pour le reste, les grandes figures du jazz belge seront à l’honneur, de Bobby Jaspar à René Thomas, de Jacques Pelzer à Toots Thielemans, mais aussi la scène musicale actuelle, particulièrement active, avec les concerts du contrebassiste Riccardo Del Fra autour de ses musiques composées pour les films de Lucas Belvaux (le 10/11), le pianiste Eric Legnini en solo (le 23/11) et enfin le duo que composent les fidèles complices depuis 30 ans Steve Houben (saxophone-alto et flute) et Charles Loos (piano) avec en invité spécial Grégory Houben (trompette et chant), représentant de la jeune génération de boppers belges (le 15/12).
