Conception et mes Richard Maxwell
La saison dernière, Marie-José Malis, directrice du Théâtre de La Commune, signait la première mise en scène en langue française d’une pièce de Richard Maxwell : The end of reality, où comme souvent chez cet auteur et metteur en scène new-yorkais se faisait entendre la voix de laissés-pour-compte des grandes villes. Celle d’employés d’une agence de sécurité de Manhattan. Avec sa compagnie New York City Players, il revient en ce début de saison à Aubervilliers avec Dévoiler, Pièce d’actualité n°14 de La Commune. Fruit d’une exploration du territoire débutée au printemps 2019, cette pièce explore le quotidien de ses habitants maghrébins et subsahariens, qui représentent la moitié de la population de la ville.
Renouer avec la ville
« Si on vous donnait les clés du théâtre, que feriez-vous avec le bâtiment ? ». C’est avec cette question en apparence toute simple que Richard Maxwell est parti à la rencontre de la communauté d’Aubervilliers. Tout comme il le fait aux États-Unis, afin d’inventer de nouveaux espaces de rencontre entre l’art et la ville. Dévoiler est aussi une réflexion sur notre rapport au passé. Sur la tendance de « certaines personnes à se renfermer sur ce qu’elles connaissent, plutôt que de se lancer dans de nouvelles relations, d’explorer de nouvelles idées ».
