Incontournable lors de cette rentrée lyrique, Olivier Py signe avenue Montaigne une nouvelle production du chef-d’œuvre de Poulenc, après les réussites d’Alceste à Garnier et d’Aïda à Bastille. On attend avec impatience sa vision de cet opéra dont les héroïnes sont des religieuses condamnées à mort en 1794 par le Tribunal Révolutionnaire. Créés en 1957 à la Scala de Milan en italien puis au Palais Garnier en français, les Dialogues des Carmélites racontent les mésaventures de Blanche, une jeune noble qui se retire au couvent pour ne pas avoir à affronter le monde. A la critique historique des excès de la Révolution s’ajoute une intrigue mystique d’une grande efficacité théâtrale. Le livret de Bernanos est une remarquable méditation sur la mort. Opéra très populaire depuis sa création, Dialogues des Carmélites n’avaient été donnés au Théâtre des Champs-Elysées qu’en version de concert, en 1980, avec Felicity Lott en Blanche et Régine Crespin en Première Prieure. Jérémie Rhorer dirige le légendaire Philharmonia Orchestra pour accompagner d’autres noms associés au baroque comme Véronique Gens ou Sandrine Piau, mais également les imposantes Sophie Koch et Rosalind Plowright.
