Enregistré à l’issue d’une longue période de tournée, « When you know » (qui sort chez Blue Note) est un disque conçu dans un climat de calme et de plénitude, sur le thème de l’amour. Musicalement, il doit beaucoup à la magic touch de son producteur George Duke, cousin de la chanteuse, et à la collaboration lors de la tournée européenne « Strings Attached » (qui aura précédé cet enregistrement) avec les guitaristes Russell Malone et Romero Lubambo, très présents sur l’album. “J’ai vécu là une merveilleuse expérience, se souvient Dianne Reeves. Tous les soirs, j’étais impatiente de monter sur scène. Romero et Russell viennent d’univers si différents, au plan des textures et des couleurs, et je me retrouvais assise entre les deux. La musique m’a littéralement mis le grappin dessus et j’ai découvert de nouvelles façons de chanter. L’album vient de tout cet amour qu’ils m’ont donné.” L’album marque une nouvelle et incontestable réussite de Dianne Reeves. La suite se savoure sur scène où le tempérament de la chanteuse s’exprime à son niveau maximum… Attention : en première partie, le duo détonnant Musica Nuda composé de la chanteuse Petra Magoni et du contrebassiste Ferruccio Spinetti.
