Fils d’un contrebassiste classique, mari de la soprano Caroline Casadesus, Didier Lockwood est depuis toujours un musicien de jazz naturellement proche du monde de la musique classique. En tant que compositeur, il a signé deux concertos pour violon et orchestre symphonique : le premier « Les Mouettes », crée par l’Orchestre National de Lille sous la direction de Jean-Claude Casadesus, le second destiné à Maxim Vengerov. Il est aujourd’hui au centre d’une nouvelle aventure née dans le Pas-de-Calais (d’où il est originaire). Accompagné par l’Orchestre symphonique du Pas-de-Calais, Lockwood invite en tournée nordiste puis aujourd’hui à Paris le violoniste improvisateur américain Mark O’Connor issu des musiques traditionnelles et joue entre autres en soliste et création mondiale une Suite concertante pour violon et orchestre de Jean-Philippe Vanbeselaere. « Je revendique depuis longtemps le droit au plaisir quand il s’agit de musique, dans l’apprentissage ou dans le fait de jouer ensemble, mais aussi le droit à s’exprimer le plus librement possible en partant d’un art, qui pour être complet doit s’appuyer sur le partage » insiste Didier Lockwood, infatigable musicien sans frontières.
