En seulement une heure, Didon et Enée affirme le génie théâtral de Purcell. Des scènes de marins au lamento final, cet opéra dépeint la nature humaine avec une rare justesse psychologique. Il est peu de dire que la mise en scène de la grande shakespearienne Deborah Warner est attendue. Celle-ci connaît parfaitement le monde de l’opéra, pour avoir notamment monté un remarquable Don Giovanni à Glyndebourne. Dans la fosse, on retrouvera avec plaisir les musiciens des Arts florissants, sous la houlette de William Christie, qui a récemment signé un bel enregistrement consacré aux « Divine Hymns » de Purcell (Virgin). Les rôles-titres seront tenus par Malena Ernman (Dido) et Christopher Maltman (Aeneas). A noter que pendant la période de cette production seront donnés de nombreux concerts autour de Purcell, interprétés par l’équipe des Arts Flo’.
