Il y a quelque chose de palpable et de prégnant dans le théâtre de Matthias Langhoff, quelque chose venant pourtant de zones mystérieuses et immatérielles. Ce quelque chose mène « au-delà » : au-delà des mots, au-delà d’un temps uniquement linéaire, au-delà de conceptions exclusivement narratives, illustratives ou intellectuelles de la scène. Ce quelque chose renvoie à une matière théâtrale dense et profonde, ludique, puissante et libre. Si, comme l’a écrit J.-M. G. Le Clézio(1), Lautréamont est « le prophète de la poésie libérée », « celui qui a montré que la littérature pouvait encore essayer d’exprimer l’homme dans sa totalité », si l’auteur des Chants de Maldoror est « le symbole de la rébellion contre l’ordre établi, du cri contre le langage-prison », « le poète de la conscience, et aussi de la limite de la conscience », il paraît naturel, d’une certaine façon presque évident, que le chemin de Matthias Langhoff en vienne à croiser le sien. Car le metteur en scène, observateur assidu de la vie, des êtres relégués à la marge de nos sociétés, s’est lui-même depuis longtemps affirmé comme un artiste d’une grande singularité, un artiste s’affranchissant des stéréotypes formels pour porter un regard vaste et complexe : tant sur le monde que sur les œuvres qu’il choisit d’investir.
Une proposition théâtrale de grande envergure
Bien sûr, Dieu comme patient – Ainsi parlait Isidore Ducasse aura de quoi laisser perplexe un certain nombre de spectateurs.Car la représentation composite du bricoleur Matthias Langhoff (c’est ainsi que lui-même aime à se définir) cherche évidemment à confronter, à provoquer l’association et le jaillissement, plutôt qu’à donner une lecture littéraire et schématique des six chants de Lautréamont. Dans la droite perspective de son inoubliable Quartett(2) de Heiner Müller (les deux spectacles, comme mis en regard, donnent l’impression de faux jumeaux),cette nouvelle proposition théâtrale de grande envergure accumule les superpositions d’images, de tableaux vivants et de sons (le metteur en scène mêle jeu et cinéma par le biais d’un tulle transparent situé au cadre de scène), fait s’entrechoquer des éclats de prose poétique, d’images de la réalité contemporaine, de mises en situation incarnées par Anne-Lise Heimburger, Frédérique Loliée et André Wilms. Toutes ces compositions artistiques ouvrent la porte à de formidables paysages scéniques. Suivant un rythme souvent effréné, proposant à l’œil, à l’oreille, au corps, à la pensée, une quantité impressionnante de sensations et de panoramas, Dieu comme patient – Ainsi parlait Isidore Ducasse fait fourmiller l’esprit et sourdre le plus stimulant des théâtres.
