« Sans joie, pas de théâtre », tel est le credo de Natalie Royer qui s’empare d’un des textes les plus connus et drôles de Feydau : Le Dindon. Sensible à « son univers de méprise permanente et de désordre qu’il autorise » ainsi qu’à la notion de folie qui s’introduit dans ce vaudeville, la metteuse en scène entend « travailler avec acharnement sur le rythme infernal de cette orchestration, de ces rencontres apparemment fortuites, de ces entrées et sorties foudroyantes, de ces poursuites minées d’embûches, etc. » Parti pris original, elle part de la version filmée par la Comédie-Française du Dindon en 1969, dans la mise en scène de Jean Meyer, cette version lui plaisant par la singularité et le rythme du jeu des acteurs. Ding Dong ne se veut pas une imitation mais un traitement musical de la parole des acteurs, une liberté d’amplifier certains passages de la pièce, à la manière d’une loupe grossissant un détail. Pour Natalie Royer, l’objectif est « entamer, d’une façon burlesque toujours, la dignité apparente des personnages, d’en relever les égratignures et le chaos intérieur. »
