Hedwig and the angry inch est un conte initiatique pop rock à la fois trash et pimpant. Nous y assistons à un concert d’Hedwig, chanteuse et narratrice de sa propre épopée. Artiste transgenre venue d’Allemagne de l’Est, elle raconte son enfance, l’histoire d’amour et de fuite du Bloc de l’Est qui précipiteront sa transition chirurgicale bâclée, puis la rupture amoureuse qui fera basculer son personnage vers une transformation flamboyante et rock-n-roll. Dans la mise en scène de Dominique Guillo, les dialogues en français alternent avec les chansons composées par Stephen Trask, en version originale surtitrée.

Brice Hillairet, comédien de théâtre vu notamment dans La Souricière d’Agatha Christie ou Ma folle otarie de Pierre Notte, cosigne avec Dominique Guillo l’adaptation et tient le rôle-titre, aux côtés de l’artiste de music-hall Anthea Chauvière, du pianiste Raphaël Sanchez, du bassiste Antonin Holub, de la batteuse Lucie Wendremaire et du guitariste Louis Busset. Concert en trompe-l’œil, le show navigue entre un cabaret héritier de Bob Fosse, une tragédie avec son chœur, une satire sociale cynique, sous une forme théâtrale hybride où le burlesque laisse place au cinglant.
