« La première raison du choix de ces textes est leur évidente modernité, ce qui peut sembler étonnant de prime abord. Nous vivons dans une société qui se questionne sur la misère, l’intégration, les inégalités. Aujourd’hui même, nous cherchons à savoir comment accompagner tous ces peuples qui cherchent la liberté. Or, ce sont des questions que les poètes ont déjà posées. Leurs prises de position font écho à aujourd’hui et posent la question du statut de l’artiste : doit-il seulement être témoin de son temps ou témoigner contre lui ? Tout cela permet des mises en perspective et en abyme intéressantes. Après, il est très exaltant de trouver des liens et un fil rouge entre toutes ces personnes, ces siècles, ces continents, ces cultures, ces langages qui se répondent et ces interrogations qui renvoient les unes aux autres.
La poésie mise en théâtre
C’est avant tout un spectacle de théâtre. Il y a des personnages, une dramaturgie, des situations. Ce ne sont pas seulement des comédiens qui défilent à la suite pour lire des poèmes. Cet engagement physique des comédiens est très important : les voix portent les mots, les mots soutiennent les corps et les corps se mêlent aux voix. Le corps des comédiens est le plus bel outil artistique qu’un metteur en scène puisse avoir. Les mots des poètes et les corps des comédiens sont les deux piliers de ce spectacle. Il ne s’agit pas vraiment d’une histoire au sens classique du terme, mais d’une série d’histoires qui s’emboîtent les unes dans les autres, comme autant de moments qui parlent de la misère, de la guerre, du racisme, de l’amour, etc. Les cinq comédiens s’emparent des textes comme des dialogues. Dans chaque moment raconté, des personnages vivent la situation et le poète est là qui observe et dit une colère, une émotion, une révolte sur ce qui se passe. »
