C’est la version non censurée du célèbre roman du sulfureux dandy que Thomas Le Douarec a choisie d’adapter à la scène : Wilde y décrit les aventures de Dorian Gray qui, par la magie d’un vœu, conserve la grâce et la beauté de sa jeunesse pendant que son portrait vieillit. Le héros, prisonnier de l’âge de tous les possibles, s’adonne à toutes les expériences et s’enivre de tous les plaisirs, puisque « les folies sont les seules choses qu’on ne regrette jamais ». Il se lance dans une quête effrénée de la jouissance, sous toutes ses formes, même les plus inavouables, puisque, selon l’adage de Wilde, l’art n’a que faire de la morale et qu’il permet d’atteindre une forme supérieure d’existence, débarrassée des oripeaux vertueux que revêt l’impuissance. Confiant à Frédéric Pineau la réalisation d’un espace de jeu raffiné et stylisé, et à Stefan Corbin le soin de mettre en musique cette histoire extraordinaire, Thomas Le Douarec signe un spectacle total, où les interprètes, également doués pour le chant et le jeu, incarnent l’héroïsme d’une éternelle aurore.
