Carolyn Carlson a marqué la danse en France : en tant que chorégraphe, mais aussi, et peut-être surtout, en tant que danseuse. Elle fascinait dans les années 70, au point que l’on créa pour elle, à l’Opéra, le nouveau statut d’ « étoile chorégraphe » après une représentation où elle avait galvanisé la salle. Double Vision, qu’elle interprète en solo, est la preuve qu’à 66 ans, sa magie continue d’opérer. Mais ce solo, créé en 2006, illustre surtout la recherche permanente d’une artiste attentive aux expressions nouvelles et prête à se lancer dans des collaborations inattendues. Pour cette pièce, elle a en effet travaillé avec Naziha Mestaoui et Yacine Ait Kaci, les deux designers d’Electronic Shadow, groupe de création visuelle qui travaille sur la vidéo et les nouvelles technologies. Leurs images sont projetées sur le costume gigantesque de Carlson, et participent à la création d’un univers à la fois onirique et ultra-contemporain : une création chorégraphique et spatiale saisissante.
