« On ne peut jamais être absolument immobile » : on comprend aisément cette phrase, appliquée au monocycle, l’instrument de prédilection du franco-japonais Kenzo Tokuoka. Hier entouré de ses trois complices pour la création qui fonda le travail de la compagnie, le voilà aujourd’hui au centre de DS, accompagné d’un musicien live, qui joue de ses instruments (basse, guitare électrique, glockenspiel, orgue à soufflerie, percussions) comme il jouerait de son corps. A la mise en scène, une nouvelle venue : Firenza Guidi, dramaturge italienne dont on se rappelle encore la collaboration, à Avignon en 2009, avec la compagnie galloise Nofitstate dans Tabù.
Un travail sur l’objet et sur le genre
Le spectacle s’écrit autour du monocycle, instrument plutôt rare dans les spectacles de cirque, mais aussi autour de l’ambivalence que dégage le personnage de Kenzo Tokuaka. Amplifié par l’utilisation d’une jupe qui peut recouvrir son appareil de la roue jusqu’à sa taille, le phénomène réside dans l’allure androgyne de l’artiste, et dans son exploration assumée de l’identité, de la fragilité, et de la notion de genre qui en découle. Le corps joue sur la forme, la métamorphose, accueille l’objet en son prolongement, le détourne, et crée un univers singulier propice à toutes les mutations.
