Après Scrooge et Quichotte, Isabelle Starkier donne vie à un autre personnage célébrissime de la littérature : Alice et son fameux périple initiatique totalement délirant, conte à tiroirs et à miroirs où la folie de l’imaginaire repousse toujours plus loin les limites, « entre réel et fantasme ». « Ce roman d’introspection où la peur voisine avec le jeu, conte de l’identité qui flirte avec la folie, s’adresse ainsi à tous, petits ou grands à qui il conte SA propre fable », souligne la metteure en scène, qui se régale dans ce pays « du jeu – et du Je ». Musique, théâtre et arts visuels se conjuguent pour revisiter la plongée d’Alice dans l’inconnu, au plus profond d’elle-même. Le langage scénique s’élabore en croisant les chansons écrites par Amnon Beham, compositeur pianiste, le jeu mi- parlé mi-chanté d’Angélique Zaini, et les dessins créés et projetés « en direct » de Jean-Pierre Benzekri. Figures dédoublées de l’auteur, Lewis le peintre et Carroll le musicien accompagnent ainsi Alice sur scène, à cour et à jardin. Au cœur d’un univers absurde et grinçant, l’adaptation se fonde sur les grands moments du voyage : la chute, les métamorphoses d’Alice, un thé de folie, la partie de croquet… Une quête identitaire jubilatoire.
