Entre Dudu Tassa, rock star israélienne que l’on avait découvert avec son groupe The Kuwaitis, créé en 2010 afin de réinvestir la musique de son grand-père et son grand-oncle nés au Koweit et connus sous le nom des frères A-Kuwaiti, et Jonny Greenwood, le guitariste de Radiohead et The Smile, s’est nouée une vraie complicité, débutée en 2009 sur l’album Basof Mitraglim Le’Hakol de Tassa. Mais c’est en invitant sur scène Greenwood pour son projet dédié à ses aïeux que ce dernier a eu l’envie de développer une collaboration spécifique. Laquelle au final prend la forme de ce disque, dont le titre Jarak Qaribak peut se traduire par « Votre voisin est votre ami ». Ils y convient des chanteurs et chanteuses arabes à reprendre une chanson d’un autre pays que le leur. Un Égyptien fait sienne une complainte algérienne, une Palestinienne s’empare d’une chanson libanaise, une Syrienne reprend un air du folklore jordanien, et ainsi de suite. Toutes bien entendues revisitées par les deux partenaires, qui ont apporté un sérieux coup de lifting sans les dénaturer.
