Enfant terrible du music-hall, Marie Dubas, admirée par Colette, Tati et Piaf, a jeté, dans la période de l’entre-deux guerres, les bases de la chanson moderne, entre fantaisie débridée et poésie douce-amère. « Lorsque j’ai entendu les enregistrements de Marie Dubas, mon cœur n’en a pas cru ses oreilles, confie Edwige Bourdy. Comment était-ce possible, à la fois tant de fantaisie, de culot, de grâce, d’émotion, de douce folie. Cette femme m’a électrisée et bouleversée à la fois… ». On ne retient aujourd’hui généralement de Marie Dubas que “ Mon légionnaire ”, immortalisé par Piaf et repris par Gainsbourg, mais son répertoire compte des dizaines de purs chefs-d’œuvre d’une intacte actualité, tour à tour surréalistes, drôles ou poignants. La chanteuse Edwige Bourdy redonne vie à ces titres surgis de nulle part, marquant de son empreinte chacune des grandes chansons de ce spectacle. Avec émotion, humilité et un véritable talent vocal, doublé d’une diction irréprochable, elle réalise dans « Marie Dubas, de haut en bas » (mis en scène par Vicent Vittoz) une exceptionnelle performance d’interprète. Le retour de ce spectacle est une aubaine…
