Dans Asalto al agua transparente, le duo de choc de l’actuelle scène mexicaine propose une réflexion sur le désastre écologique de l’eau à Mexico ; dans El Rumor del incendio, Luisa Pardo et Gabino Rodríguez explorent l’histoire des luttes armées au Mexique, à travers le portrait de Margarita Urías Hermosillo et l’évocation des mouvements de guérilla des années 1960 et 70, les engagements qui les portèrent et la répression qu’ils subirent. Mêlant les formes et les sources théâtrales, les « Lézards étendus au soleil » ne se contentent pas d’une description historique ou écologique : dans ces deux spectacles, le théâtre réfléchit le monde contemporain et invite le spectateur à une remise en question de ses a priori en dynamitant son propre héritage artistique (« Le théâtre est bourré d’idées préconçues, de lieux communs (…) il est trop révérencieux à l’égard des maîtres, de ceux dont il se sent l’héritier », affirment les deux iconoclastes mexicains). Considérant que « la récupération d’une mémoire historique est d’une importance vitale », Luisa Pardo et Gabino Rodríguez imaginent des spectacles qui se situent « à la croisée de l’histoire et de la politique », cherchant « à faire du collectif quelque chose d’intime et de personnel » et du théâtre un geste « artistique et activiste ».
