Tokyo, New York, Berlin ou Paris… Peut-être Londres, Melbourne… Hong Kong ? Partout, les mêmes hôtels, design chic minimaliste, gratte-ciel, business lounges d’aéroport, rayures Hugo boss, CNN en boucle, managers gris neutre rivés à leur ordinateur, l’oreille collée au téléphone. Partout, les mêmes. Paumés à force d’être toujours en partance… « J’ai toujours la sensation d’arriver jamais de partir, je voyage mais je ne bouge pas » murmure Tom, errant dans des couloirs sans fin à la recherche de sa chambre. Paumé. Flexible, mobile, sans attaches. Exemplaire anonyme d’un « Travail sans qualités » décrit par le sociologue Richard Sennett. Ailleurs, Joy « vacataire, employée stand by » d’une chaîne de magasins d’aéroport, angoisse face à la caisse enregistreuse qui a bugué en pleine nuit, tandis que s’allonge l’attente furieuse des hommes d’affaires stressés. Tom et Joy vaquent d’une capitale à l’autre. Ils se sont rencontrés par accident, s’aiment de temps en temps. S’appellent ce soir, désespérément. Tous deux perdus dans un quotidien calqué sur les modèles pré-formatés, devenus étrangers à eux-mêmes sous l’emprise de la machine économique mondialisée.
Romance contemporaine
Electronic City raconte l’histoire banale d’individus en perte d’identité à force de vaguer dans l’univers impersonnel, interchangeable, d’une mondialité standardisée. Incapables de créer leur propre vie, acteurs malgré eux d’un scénario qu’ils n’ont pas écrit, ils vivent dans une réalité virtuelle, phagocytée par les séries télé et l’environnement professionnel. Cyril Teste et le Collectif MxM s’emparent du texte de l’allemand Falk Richter comme d’un synopsis et dévoilent la fabrique de cette fiction réelle. Images vidéo, gros plans filmés en direct, inserts de paysages urbains, voix-off enregistrées, scénographie mobile, sons spatialisés brouillent les repères de l’ici et maintenant et rendent palpable cette sensation, confuse et tenace, d’un réel qui sans cesse s’échappe et se dissout dans les clichés. Les comédiens Pascal Rénéric (Tom), Servane Ducorps (Joy), Alexandra Castellon (Amy) Stephane Lalloz (Peter) et Aymeric Rouillard (Caméraman) font résonner au plus juste l’errance intime de ces êtres en perpétuel jet lag, leur détresse solitaire, humaine, tellement humaine.
