Depuis son adolescence brésilienne à Sao Paulo, Eliane Elias connaît et vénère la musique du grand pianiste Bill Evans dont elle retranscrivait fiévreusement la musique à l’écoute de ses disques… « Bill avait une conception du jazz en trio si passionnante que dès mon plus jeune âge, j’ai eu grâce à lui une direction en tant que musicien » confie-t-elle. Rien d’étonnant donc qu’elle pense aujourd’hui, au zénith de sa carrière, à lui rendre hommage sur cet album « Somehing to you », qui marque son retour sur le label Blue Note. Le morceau qui donne son titre à ce nouveau disque est le point de départ du projet : une composition inédite redécouverte par son mari le contrebassiste Marc Johnson, membre du dernier trio de Bill Evans, sur une cassette que lui avait remise Bill Evans peu avant sa mort en 1980… « J’ai retranscrit chaque note, confie Eliane Elias. Et j’ai ressenti la même chose que ce que j’éprouvais enfant. J’ai réagi à ce qu’il jouait de manière très émotionnelle, en pleurant parfois ». Une musique intense et rayonnante.
