Après Nous, les héros et Jean la Chance, La Tête des autres est la troisième pièce que vous mettez en scène avec les comédiens du Centre dramatique de la Courneuve. Qu’est-ce qui a nourri cette nouvelle envie de collaboration artistique ?
Elisabeth Hölzle : Cela fait très longtemps que nous nous connaissons. Avant même de mettre en scène Nous, les héros et Jean le Chance, j’ai été invitée à deux reprises comme comédienne par la compagnie du Centre dramatique de la Courneuve : pour La Nuit des rois, en 1996, et Le Songe d’une nuit d’été, en 2004. Je me suis sentie immédiatement très à l’aise parmi eux. Ce sont des artistes travailleurs, passionnés, très ouverts sur l’extérieur, très actifs sur le plateau comme en dehors du plateau. J’ai découvert un dynamisme de chaque instant au sein de cette compagnie.

Maria Gomez : La rencontre avec Elisabeth a en effet été une vraie rencontre, qui a donné naissance à une relation forte, belle. L’une des caractéristiques de notre compagnie est d’inviter régulièrement des metteurs en scène à venir créer des spectacles à La Courneuve. L’humain et l’artistique allant de pair pour nous, nous avons naturellement proposé à Elisabeth de retravailler avec notre compagnie. Nous apprécions beaucoup sa délicatesse, son écoute. Lorsque l’on appartient à un groupe d’acteurs ayant l’habitude de travailler ensemble, il est important de pouvoir se confronter à un œil extérieur. Elisabeth nous pousse sur des chemins que nous n’aurions pas empruntés seuls. Elle nous fait beaucoup avancer, nous amène à nous surprendre les uns les autres, à dépasser les limites que, sans elle, nous n’aurions probablement pas dépassées. Et c’est quelque chose d’inestimable !
Qu’est-ce qui a orienté votre nouveau choix de pièce ?
E. H. : J’avais envie de mettre en scène une pièce drôle et inattendue, une pièce à la fois plus légère et plus folle que Nous, les héros ou Jean la Chance. Marcel Aymé place l’action de La Tête des autres dans un pays imaginaire : La Poldavie. Dans cette satire, une société bourgeoise aux mœurs dissolues apparaît dans toute son immoralité. Suite à une affaire mêlant justice et coucheries, différents personnages tentent, coûte que coûte, de sauver leur honneur. Marcel Aymé déploie une succession de rebondissements improbables et saugrenus qui rappellent les codes du théâtre de boulevard.
M. G. : Il s’agit d’un texte très dense, qu’Elisabeth a souhaité retravailler. Nous l’avons beaucoup resserré afin de l’alléger, de lui donner davantage d’âpreté, d’accentuer son rythme de cavalcade et son caractère de folie. Marcel Aymé dresse un tableau sombre et cinglant du milieu judiciaire. Dans La Tête des autres, voyous, femmes du monde, petits bourgeois… se meuvent au milieu de l’ambiguïté et de la bassesse avec une aisance incroyable.
Quels sont, selon vous, les principaux atouts de cette écriture ?
E. H. : La langue est rythmée, les répliques fusent et jaillissent avec une grande virtuosité. Il y a quelque chose d’immédiatement jubilatoire dans cette écriture incisive, mordante, qui met en place un véritable art de la joute verbale. Marcel Aymé n’a pas peur de nous faire basculer dans des situations invraisemblables. Il fait preuve, dans cette pièce, d’une grande audace, d’une liberté d’auteur folle !
M. G. : Sous des apparences de drôlerie et de légèreté, La Tête des autres révèle également une grande violence, une grande acidité. Lorsque cette pièce a été créée, en 1952, par André Barsacq au Théâtre de L’Atelier, elle a d’ailleurs provoqué un grand scandale.
Pour quelle raison avez-vous souhaité mêler des chansons à ce texte ?
E. H. : J’avais envie de nourrir ce spectacle de joie, de fantaisie, envie de répondre aux libertés que prend Marcel Aymé dans sa pièce par mes propres libertés de metteure en scène. J’ai donc demandé aux huit comédiens participant à cette aventure, non seulement de chanter des chansons d’Henri Salvador, de Jean-Jacques Goldman, de Benjamin Biolay…, mais également de danser. J’ai voulu donner un maximum de rythme, de couleurs, un maximum de relief à ce spectacle.
