Qui sait où l’imaginaire des mots peut mener… On s’envole sur une page, on se glisse au creux d’une phrase, s’enfonce dans le méandre des lignes, jusqu’au cœur de soi, ailleurs, loin du monde bruyant des réalités. Petite fille timide, Sophie se réfugie au hasard d’une course poursuite dans une bibliothèque et découvre les livres. Elle se plonge alors dans les histoires et commence à divaguer. « J’aime lire. Un jour, une image m’est venue : celle d’un personnage qui est tiré littéralement des pages d’un livre et qui réapparaît comme partie intégrante de l’histoire. », confie Cecilia Cackley, marionnettiste installée aux Etats-Unis, à Washington D.C. J’ai toujours utilisé mes peluches et mes jouets pour mettre en scène mes histoires imaginaires ; ces poupées sont simplement une extension de mes jeux d’enfance. » Manipulant avec dextérité ses personnages de chiffons, elle donne vie à la petite Sophie, au monde merveilleux qui surgit au gré du récit… au risque de l’enfermer dans ses chimères.
