Pierre Notte le remarque lui-même : quinze ans après sa création, la fable grinçante qu’il a écrite acquiert « une autre résonnance ». « Avec Eléonore Briganti, Zelinda Fert, Agnès Pat’ et Axel Nouveau, c’est une dimension tragique, orientée dans un optimisme nouveau, qui s’ajoute dans un portrait burlesque et jusqu’ici sans espoir », dit le dramaturge à propos de la mise en scène imaginée par Elodie Chanut. On retrouve donc Geneviève, qui a décidé d’être Catherine Deneuve, Marie, sa sœur, qui a choisi d’être chanteuse de cabaret, leur frère qui préfère Wittgenstein à Freud pour régler les névroses du clan, et la mère qui fait du bruit avec sa bouche sans rien dire vraiment. « De chansons en affrontements, chacun vit sa folie et règle ses comptes entre un cake au citron, un couteau de cuisine et un revolver », dit Elodie Chanut, qui conduit cette « farce gratinée » en s’appuyant sur les ressorts du rire, dont on sait bien qu’il est la seule élégance qui reste au désespoir quand tout s’écroule.
