Longtemps la femme à barbe fascina autant qu’elle effraya les regards bien normés des gens normaux. Portant au visage le velu stigmate des désordres de la nature, elle faisait attraction pour de vrai dans les foires ou en gravure dans les cabinets de curiosités. Sans doute parce que ce corps monstrueux avait le singulier pouvoir de pulvériser les catégories qui séparent l’homme de la femme. Venue des arts du cirque, Jeanne Mordoj ravive cette imagerie d’antan et arbore un collier d’un blond roux proprement taillé. Jongleuse, manipulatrice d’objets, comédienne, meneuse de revue et ventriloque, elle détourne volontiers le cours des choses et manie les mots d’esprit du haut de ses tréteaux.
Coquillages vides, jaunes d’œuf, cranes de blaireau et de bélier ou encore verges de bambou… sont ses matières, prétextes à jouer avec les peurs et les dégouts, l’étrange et le mystère. Mêlant les techniques circassiennes, le genre forain et sa fantasque bizarrerie, Jeanne Mordoj met en branle son petit théâtre imaginaire pour évoquer en douce l’anormal et l’effroi, le rire et l’illusion, le sexe et la finitude. Avec une drôlerie rustique, un plaisir enfantin du jeu et une sensualité inattendue, elle suscite tout à la fois attirance curieuse et troublante répulsion.
