Symbole vivant de la jeune Révolution tunisienne, Emel Mathlouthi s’est imposée depuis la sortie de son premier disque, symbole de liberté et de résistance, comme une des voix du monde qui compte. Son univers se dessine entre tendresse et révolte, au fil de chansons qui doivent beaucoup au pop folk américain (Joan Baez) et aux sonorités actuelles, véritables films musicaux aux résonances arabo-électros. « J’ai besoin de créer un décor sonore fort avec des lumières, des couleurs, des parfums… Une chanson pour moi, c’est un défilé de décors différents » explique-t-elle. Un univers où il est surtout question d’amour, d’espoir et de liberté : « Ce désir de liberté, je l’ai eu en moi dès mon enfance… Dans cette Tunisie verrouillée, il n’y avait pas de place pour la jeunesse, c’était la misère. La misère affective, intellectuelle, spirituelle… Tout ce que je voyais autour de moi, c’était du néant. Les gens étaient façonnés par le pouvoir, alors que moi, j’étais révoltée » confie Emel Mathlouthi se souvenant de son enfance.
