C’est un événement musical aux confins du jazz et de la création contemporaine classique. Créée le 14 avril dernier dans le cadre du festival Europa Djazz 2007 du Mans, l’œuvre est jouée aujourd’hui en création parisienne par l’Orchestre du CNR d’Aubervilliers-La Courneuve placé sous la direction de Denis Badault et avec le compositeur en soliste. Emmanuel Bex a conçu une partition de 50 minutes, en trois mouvements, qui mêle habilement écriture et improvisation jazz. « La partie d’orchestre est entièrement écrite alors que la partie soliste laisse une grande place à l’improvisation. Pour le musicien de jazz que je suis, inclure l’improvisation, comme le faisaient les maîtres anciens, me paraît aller de soi » explique-t-il. « Emmanuel Bex a choisi d’utiliser le matériel harmonique qui est celui commun au jazz et à la musique française du début du XXe siècle. Pas étonnant donc qu’on y repère les influences de Ravel, Fauré, Poulenc et même Jacques Ibert, mais aussi Stravinsky et Prokofiev » écrivait Pascal Anquetil dans Jazzman au lendemain de la création. En deuxième partie de ce concert à Gaveau, Bex revient au jazz pur et dur en invitant deux grandes dames à fort tempérament : la chanteuse brésilienne Mônica Passos et Rhoda Scott, grande figure de l’orgue Hammond. Avec aussi Jérôme Barde (guitare), Frédéric Monino (basse) et François Laizeau (batterie).
