Les deux projets que vous vous apprêtez à présenter sont liés à votre rencontre avec la culture japonaise. Quels sont vos liens avec ce pays ?
Emmanuelle Huynh : En 2001, j’ai été accueillie en résidence à la villa Kujoyama : je voulais observer l’art des cuisiniers japonais, et également les modes de travail dans le secteur du bâtiment. J’y ai aussi rencontré des artistes et depuis, j’y suis régulièrement invitée pour enseigner. Quand j’ai pris la direction du CNDC d’Angers, en 2004, j’ai souhaité faire fructifier mon attraction pour ce pays et les rencontres que j’y avais faites : le CNDC invite régulièrement des artistes japonais à venir enseigner, et chaque année, un échange a lieu entre des étudiants du CNDC et ceux d’une formation en danse de Kyoto.
Le directeur de cette formation est Kosei Sakamoto, avec lequel vous co-signez Monster Project…
E. H. : En 2007, Kosei Sakamoto a transmis un solo intitulé Kaibutsu (« monstre ») à Aline Landreau, l’une des étudiantes du CNDC accueillies à Kyoto. Il m’a proposé de composer un spectacle commun : l’interprète « originelle » du solo, Masako Sugimoto, présenterait le solo, dont Aline Landreau montrerait également son interprétation ; ensuite, elles exécuteraient tour à tour un solo que j’aurais chorégraphié, également sur le thème du « monstre ». Plutôt qu’un solo interprété deux fois, j’ai proposé un solo à l’unisson. Je me disais que ce qui était monstrueux, c’était peut-être précisément la multiplication, le fait d’avoir « le même » deux fois… Les danseuses – qui finissent, étonnamment, par se ressembler ! – deviennent des sortes de jumelles, voire de siamoises, comme un animal rampant.
Deux mois après Monster Project, vous présenterez une création : Shinbaï, le vol de l’âme.
E. H. : Depuis longtemps, je souhaitais travailler avec un maître Ikebana : l’art floral japonais, un art du choix et de la composition, comme la danse. Ce projet a enfin été possible lorsque l’on m’a mise en contact avec Madame Seiho Okudaira. Elle est l’héritière d’une école d’Ikebana qui considère que le geste qui fait naître le bouquet est aussi important que le bouquet lui-même. Je lui ai proposé d’imaginer à deux la réalisation d’un Ikebana géant, à l’échelle d’un plateau. C’est une sorte de jeu, qui permet à la fois à nos pratiques respectives de s’épanouir et de « se déplacer », par l’investissement de postures et de gestes nouveaux. Quant au spectateur, il s’agit de le mettre en position de travail face aux images qui se constitueront sous ses yeux, faites de fleurs, d’objets et de gestes.
