Lui-même forgé à la danse à travers son apprentissage en Côte d’Ivoire, Georges Momboye sait ce que signifie la tradition. Même si son bagage semble aujourd’hui édulcoré au milieu de toutes les influences qui ont construit son parcours (Alvin Ailey, Rick Odums, danse classique)… Aujourd’hui, après avoir revisité les grands « tubes » du ballet tels que Le Sacre du Printemps ou L’Après-midi d’un Faune, il se penche sur une autre culture très identifiée en Afrique, celle du peuple Massaï. Hommes nomades à l’allure longiligne, ils sont également connus pour leur danse faite notamment de sauts à pieds joints. Georges Momboye revisite cette dynamique, ainsi que les rituels où le maquillage prédomine. Sa pièce, créée lors de la Biennale de la Danse du Val-de-Marne, se construit comme un aller-retour entre leur fragilité et leur force, entre l’équilibre et le déséquilibre.
