Comme celle de ses contemporains de la « génération de Darmstadt », qui autour de Pierre Boulez (né en 1925), Luciano Berio (1926-2002) ou György Ligeti (1923-2006) a fondé l’avant-garde musicale de la deuxième moitié du xxe siècle, l’œuvre de Karlheinz Stockhausen a toujours nourri les programmes de l’Ensemble intercontemporain. Empruntant au compositeur, décédé en décembre dernier, le titre de l’une de ses pièces, In Freundschaft (en toute amitié), l’ensemble lui rend hommage le 5 novembre et prolonge post-mortem la relation qui fut construite ces trente dernières années. Kontra-Punkte (1952) pour dix instruments, l’un des chefs-d’œuvre du xxe siècle, est ainsi dirigé par Peter Rundel au seuil d’un programme qui mêle les générations, de Bruno Maderna (1920-1973) à Mark André (né en 1964) en passant par Helmut Lachenmann (né en 1935). Le lendemain, les solistes de l’ensemble se partagent les pièces pour instruments à vent : Laub und Regen (1974), In Freundschaft (1977) dans sa version pour basson (l’une des quinze composées !), Bijou (1980) et Tierkreis, œuvre sans cesse retouchée de 1974 à 2003, ici dans sa version pour trio à vent et piano.
