Un mois après sa création à la Kölner Philharmonie, ce magnifique programme conçu par l’EIC est présenté à Paris. Le jeune chef et compositeur Gregor A. Mayrhofer, actuel Chef assistant de Matthias Pintscher (lui aussi chef et compositeur) à l’Ensemble Intercontemporain, défend une série de partitions qui ont été inspirées par des sculptures ou installations. La plus célèbre d’entre elles, qui conclut le concert, est évidemment la Rothko Chapel pour soprano, contralto, chœur mixte et instruments de Morton Feldman, composée en 1972 pour la chambre de méditation octogonale de la Fondation Menil à Houston et ses quatorze toiles du grand peintre américain, ami de Feldman. Au même programme : beyond (a system of passing) pour flûte, confirme l’intérêt de Pintscher pour Anselm Kiefer, qui a composé cette œuvre en lien avec A.E.I.O.U., une installation du grand peintre allemand ; M pour baryton et ensemble de Jay Schwartz, conçu comme le pendant musical de la sculpture Hommage à Mozart de Markus Lüpertz, visible à Salzbourg ; une nouvelle œuvre de Benjamin Attahir ; et enfin le Grand Hommage à l’Âge de la Technique, d’après l’œuvre du même nom d’Arnaldo Pomodoro composé par Gregor Mayrhofer en personne. Avec Evan Hughes, (baryton), Sophie Cherrier (flûte) et le choeur Les Cris de Paris.
