Passé par le cursus de composition de l’Ircam, le compositeur catalan Hèctor Parra est, à trente-cinq ans, l’une des figures les plus intéressantes de la jeune génération européenne. Dès 2005, l’Ensemble intercontemporain misait sur le talent de cet élève de Brian Ferneyhough, Jonathan Harvey et Michael Jarrell, avec une symphonie de chambre (Quasikristall) où se révèle, déjà, son goût pour une dramaturgie musicale faite du croisement minutieux, inexorable, d’atmosphères changeantes. Assumant une certaine dimension « cosmique » de son inspiration – il a confié à la physicienne Lisa Randall le livret de son opéra Hypermusic Prologue – il a composé sa nouvelle œuvre, Caressant l’horizon, avec Le Destin de l’Univers de l’astrophysicien Jean-Pierre Luminet comme livre de chevet.
