En ouverture du cycle « Des pieds et des mains » qui se déroule du 10 au 12 février à la Cité de la Musique, Ludovic Morlot dirige, à la tête de l’Ensemble Intercontemporain, une œuvre majeure et rare de Karlheinz Stockhausen. Inori, composé en 1974 (et présenté à l’époque à Paris dans le cadre du Festival d’Automne), emprunte son titre à un mot japonais qui signifie « invocation, adoration ». Conçue pour un ou deux solistes et grand orchestre, l’œuvre relève d’une expérience totale où la dimension visuelle a une importance primordiale, en particulier dans la « partition » chorégraphiée conçue pour les deux « solistes » (Kathinka Pasveer et Alain Louafi) dont les « gestes de prière », qui empruntent à diverses religions du monde, constituent la seule intervention et sont intimement liés à la mélodie. À chacun de leurs 13 mouvements de mains différents correspond une note, et plus les mains de ces « solistes-mimes » s’éloignent de leur corps, plus la nuance est forte ; plus leurs mains montent, plus la tonalité tend vers l’aigu… Stockhausen voyait dans son œuvre le premier essai liant la notion de geste et de mélodie. Une œuvre véritablement unique en son genre.
