Des cinq enfants de Johann Sebastian Bach qui se sont voués à la musique, Carl Philip Emmanuel et Wilhelm Friedemann furent de loin les plus doués et inspirés. Ce programme proposé par la violoncelliste Ophélie Gaillard à la tête de son Ensemble Pulcinella leur est entièrement consacré. Après un hommage au père en ouverture avec le Concerto brandebourgeois n° 3 BWV 1048/3 et une évocation de l’aîné Wilhelm Friedemann Bach avec sa Sinfonia « La Dissonante » en fa majeur, Ophélie Gaillard insiste sur l’œuvre électrisante de Carl Philip Emmanuel, à laquelle elle s’est déjà consacrée au disque en signant deux enregistrements marquants (en 2014 puis 2016). « A chaque fois que l’on joue sa musique qui n’est pas si souvent que ça programmée en France, on ressent une explosion d’énergie, de joie et d’intensité dramatique qui nous motive énormément » insiste d’emblée la directrice musicale de Pulcinella, qui semble voir en C. P. E. un précurseur du Romantisme. Deux symphonies (Wq 182/3 et Wq 177) et deux concertos (pour violoncelle Wq 170 et pour clavecin Wq 17) vont éclairer, lors de ce rendez-vous matinal, le talent bouillonnant de ce musicien dont on peut se demander si l’œuvre n’a pas été plus desservie qu’éclairée par le génie de son père.
