XXè SIECLE / SAINT QUENTIN EN YVELINES
Depuis 1994, le compositeur et chef d’orchestre Raul Lay dirige l’ensemble marseillais avec pour double ligne conductrice un engagement en faveur des musiques d’aujourd’hui et un goût pour les croisements de projets avec des chorégraphes, auteurs, metteurs en scène ou circassiens. Dans ce programme intitulé « Folks Songs », ils ont conçu un voyage imaginaire dont le point de départ est le célèbre cycle homonyme constitué de chansons d’origines diverses (Sardaigne, Etats-Unis, Azerbaidjan, Sicile, Auvergne…) rassemblées par Luciano Berio en 1964. Dans le sillage du compositeur italien, Raoul Lay propose en deuxième partie d’autres « chansons » de Manuel de Falla, Astor Piazzolla, Kurt Weill ou de sa propre plume, interprétées par la soprano Brigitte Peyré et un choeur d’amateurs d’enfants, adolescents et adultes, exaltant un art de la chanson (ou Song, Cancion, Lied, etc.), où le compositeur doit savoir concentrer et simplifier son expression en allant à l’essentiel en une poignée de minutes.
