Comédie de Picardie / d’après Virginia Woolf / mes Lisa Wurmser
Juin 1939, une bourgade de la campagne anglaise. Une représentation théâtrale se prépare chez les Oliver, en plein air ou dans la grange si le temps l’impose. Dans une langue au plus près de l’être, les personnages dialoguent, ou s’évadent dans leurs réflexions et rêveries introspectives. « Je connais et j’aime ce roman depuis plus de vingt ans. Il mêle l’histoire individuelle et l’histoire collective de manière très brillante, développe un point de vue sur l’art passionnant, et, comme dans La Cerisaie de Tchekhov, évoque magnifiquement la dislocation d’un monde. De plus, le regard satirique que Virginia Woolf porte sur la confrontation entre les villageois et la bourgeoisie est particulièrement acéré et moderne. » confie la metteure en scène Lisa Wurmser. A travers Miss La Trobe et son spectacle, c’est aussi l’histoire littéraire anglaise qui apparaît et se superpose à la vie présente. Un entrechoquement de haute volée entre l’intime et le social, entre l’intime et l’Histoire, entre le passé hérité et le présent incertain qui trace sa voie.
