Ce spectacle est, selon votre appellation, une proposition nomade.
A. M. : C’est une proposition artistique courte, d’une heure environ, destinée aux publics peu familiarisés avec les institutions théâtrales, les « nouveaux destinataires du théâtre » dont parle Pasolini. Cette proposition « mobile » se joue dans les théâtres traditionnels mais aussi hors les murs, dans les bibliothèques, les maisons d’arrêt, les salles polyvalentes, les gymnases, les lycées. En quête du bonheur touche naturellement tous les publics dont le désarroi quotidien n’est que peu élucidé. L’oratorio s’inscrit exactement à mi-chemin entre univers poétique et univers musical. Ce travail poursuit le spectacle de 2006 Avec les armes de la poésie à la Maison de la Poésie, inspiré des poèmes de Pasolini, Hikmet et Ritsos. Sur le plateau, afflue cette émotion douce qu’inspire l’idée grave du bonheur ; de plus, le principe d’improvisation est porteur d’un élan de liberté entre les acteurs et le musicien.
Comment avez-vous été sensibilisé à la recherche existentielle du bonheur ?
A.M : Cette idée m’est venue au Qatar tandis que je présentais Il neige dans la nuit de Hikmet au Centre Culturel Français. Ce pays rêve d’acquérir le statut de place financière internationale alors que sa tradition esclavagiste affirme l’exploitation des travailleurs indiens et pakistanais. Il n’empêche que dans les rues foisonnent les panneaux publicitaires avec leurs images mercantiles de bien-être – grand ciel bleu et familles rayonnantes. En Occident, il n’y a pas un magazine qui ne fasse allusion à cette question du bonheur ; on va jusqu’à évoquer sa composition chimique ou sa cartographie. Le sujet a la force d’un enjeu de recherche scientifique et d’un outil marketing.
« Pourquoi tant d’avidité dans l’usage mercantile du bonheur ? »
Le bonheur est aujourd’hui un concept dont les critères sont à évaluer, loin de toute velléité révolutionnaire d’émancipation, chère à Voltaire et à Rousseau.
Quel est le parcours de cette course inaccessible au bonheur ?
A. M. : Nous avons répertorié des textes philosophiques et poétiques depuis le XVIIIe siècle jusqu’à nos jours sans le moindre montage chronologique. Depuis la définition du Robert à des textes d’actualité, de Baudelaire et Michaux à Pascal et Rousseau, de Houellebecq et Cioran à Salvayre et Le Clézio, en passant par Courrier International et ses articles sur « la biologie de la joie » ou « la carte mondiale du bien-être subjectif ». On ne cherche pas à asséner une thèse, on propose plutôt un voyage au spectateur avec trois comédiens et la musique de Régis Huby, entre jazz pointu et ballades grand public. Le spectacle pose plus de questions qu’il n’apporte de réponses sur l’essence ou les sens du bonheur. Pourquoi tant d’avidité dans l’usage mercantile du bonheur ? Pourquoi le désir est-il à renouveler toujours plus souvent et plus intensément, sous peine de retomber dans la dépression fatale de la mélancolie ?
L’expérience du « bonheur » des textes a toutefois bien lieu.
A.M. : Les auteurs cités diffusent des langues singulières qui ne se ressemblent pas. Il s’agit de trouver un équilibre entre des textes peu entendus depuis longtemps et qu’on redécouvre et des textes plus méconnus qui font écho à nos préoccupations. Le spectacle n’a rien à voir avec une proposition déprimante et les abîmes de déception. Il revigore plutôt et ragaillardit le public face aux fulgurances d’un bonheur à saisir.
