Quel est le fondement de la démarche artistique que vous mettez en œuvre au sein de la compagnie Image Aiguë ?
Christiane Véricel : La démarche de notre compagnie est d’inventer des spectacles avec des comédiens d’âges et de cultures différents, des comédiens qui habitent la France ou l’étranger, des autochtones ou des immigrés qui parlent, sur scène, leur langue d’origine. En voyageant à travers le monde, en créant des spectacles dans de nombreux pays, j’ai réalisé que même si l’on ne parle pas la même langue, même si l’on ne partage pas la même culture, on peut raconter les mêmes histoires sur scène.
Possédez-vous une vision militante du théâtre ?
Ch. V. : Oui. J’ai commencé en faisant du théâtre dans les banlieues. J’ai immédiatement été séduite par la rencontre de personnalités très diverses sur scène. C’est une façon de récréer un petit monde, de poser un regard riche et positif sur l’autre, quel qu’il soit. C’est une invitation à ne pas rester chez soi, à aller plus loin, à partir à la rencontre d’autres cultures. Même si j’ai évidemment conscience qu’il s’agit d’une goutte d’eau dans l’océan, je crois qu’établir un dialogue artistique cohérent entre des individus qui ne parlent pas la même langue est une façon très intéressante de tisser des liens entre des cultures différentes, d’ouvrir les yeux et d’appréhender le monde de façon enthousiaste.
Comment élaborez-vous vos spectacles ?
Ch. V. : Ce qui est fondamentale pour moi, c’est que rien ne reste dans le discours ou dans la théorie. Mes spectacles se construisent sur des rencontres concrètes, des rencontres qui révèlent le vécu et les particularités de chaque comédien présent sur scène. Je suis souvent contactée par des théâtres et des institutions culturelles pour mettre en place des projets à l’intérieur de quartiers.

Notre compagnie organise ainsi des ateliers qui nous permettent de repérer des personnalités et qui permettent, de même, à des personnes de choisir d’aller plus loin avec nous. Ensuite, une fois le groupe constitué, je propose aux comédiens de jouer des histoires du quotidien fondées sur l’actualité, des histoires assez souples qui parlent à tout le monde, que chaque comédien peut appréhender de façon personnelle, intime, quasi immédiate.
Le texte n’est donc jamais écrit à l’avance…
Ch. V. : Non, car il est composé de différentes langues. Je trouve indispensable de laisser une place importante à l’imaginaire de chacun, afin que toutes les cultures et toutes les personnalités du groupe viennent enrichir le théâtre. Bien sûr, tout cela est cadré. Car, j’ai toujours en tête une nécessité : veiller à ce que nos recherches collectives restent lisibles et perceptibles pour le public. Mon travail de metteure en scène revient, ensuite, à établir des correspondances entre ce que j’ai envie de dire sur le monde en tant qu’artiste et ce que le reste de la troupe veut exprimer. J’élague, je recentre, je capte des sensations, des énergies, des émotions, puis je conçois quelque chose de « répétable ». Quelque chose qui reste toujours vivant, qui se nourrisse toujours du plaisir du théâtre. Car, le plaisir est le moteur de mon travail. Pour moi, s’il n’y a pas de plaisir, il n’y a pas de théâtre.
Quelles thématiques explore Ici là-bas ?
Ch. V. : Ici là-bas parle de la difficulté et de la satisfaction de vivre ensemble, de cohabiter, d’occuper le même territoire, d’accepter les différences et les caractéristiques de l’autre. Mais, d’une certaine façon, c’est ce que racontent plus ou moins tous mes spectacles. C’est vraiment les spécificités du groupe qui donnent une couleur particulière à chacune de mes créations.
