« Festen revisite, dans sa substance, la notion même du théâtre, puisque c’est par la théâtralité d’une réception que tout se joue. Et si chaque membre de la famille dont il est question doit lire un texte pour honorer l’anniversaire de Helge, le père, c’est par un récit en public que Christian, le fils aîné, tel un Hamlet contemporain, se réapproprie la vérité et interrompt la représentation – ou plus exactement la commence. Festen va s’écrire comme un long plan séquence en direct.
Forme performative
Les recherches menées par le collectif MxM sur la grammaire commune du théâtre et de l’image mènent aujourd’hui naturellement à une convergence idéale du processus, de la forme et du sujet. La performance filmique est une écriture théâtrale qui s’appuie sur un dispositif cinématographique en temps réel et à vue, en décor naturel ou au plateau. Cette forme performative injecte dans le temps du cinéma le présent du théâtre, créant ainsi une seule image, éphémère et unique. »
