Dix ans après son premier album personnel, un solo magistral consacré à la musique de Monk, le guitariste revient avec « Solène » (label Subsecquence/Dist. Anticraft) conçu dans un esprit très différent. Entre temps, son parcours atypique aura été marqué par différentes incursions dans d’autres domaines musicaux comme le rock avec Superphenix, les musiques du monde avec Geoffrey Oryema ou la chanson avec Jeanne Cherhal…Amorcé depuis 2004 en tant que sideman auprès de Julien Lourau, le retour au jazz d’Eric Löhrer se concrétise aujourd’hui en qualité de leader à la tête d’un quartet ouvert à mille nuances, au service de ses compositions et de celles de ses complices : Eric Surmenian (contrebasse), Patrick Goraguer (batterie) et l’incroyable Jean-Charles Richard (sax soprano) dont Löhrer souligne « la sonorité exceptionnelle, l’étendue de la palette, l’absence de limites techniques et la gestion de l’énergie ». Un jazz organique dessiné tout en lignes fluides et saisissantes.
