Un des indiscutables temps forts de la saison en cours de l’Orchestre de Paris. Souvent considéré comme le chef le plus doué de sa génération, Salonen occupe le poste de directeur musical du Los Angeles Philharmonic Orchestra depuis 1992 et vient de prendre la responsabilité de chef principal du Philharmonia Orchestra à Londres. Il défend ici un programme portant bien sa griffe, partagé entre un grand chef-d’oeuvre du post-romantisme européen – Das klagende Lied de Mahler – et la création d’une œuvre nouvelle dont il a suscité la commande : un Concerto pour violon du compositeur suisse (parisien d’adoption) Richard Dubugnon. «Ma musique est la plupart du temps autobiographique, comme les pages de carnets intimes, ou occulte, répondant à des systèmes cachés, explique le compositeur. J’essaie aussi d’appliquer des techniques de traitement d’images : juxtapositions, zooms, fade in et fade out, fondus enchaînés, négatifs… J’ai toujours eu un rapport plus visuel qu’auditif avec la musique. Ce concerto pour violon est dédié à Esa Pekka Salonen, avec qui je partage le même attachement à l’expressivité et la couleur en composition musicale ». Son concerto sera confié à la jeune déesse néerlandaise du violon, Jeanine Jensen, dont le violon est aussi, selon Dubugnon, « une palette aux tons infinis ». Une consécration pour ce jeune artiste de notre scène musicale. Autre actualité pour Dubugnon : le premier enregistrement de son pasionnant cycle « Arcanes Symphoniques » chez Accord-Universal (par l’Orchestre National de Montpellier, dirigée par Alain Altinoglu, Enrique Diemecke et Friedmann Layer).
