Le cirque d’aujourd’hui est-il contemporain ? Hum… Curieuse question. Et pourtant… A force de flotter en étendard depuis trente ans, l’étiquette « nouveau » n’est-elle pas un peu délavée ? « A travers l’historique du jonglage depuis le 19ème siècle, nous avons voulu questionner le « nouveau » cirque aujourd’hui. Avec les années, il s’est parfois ossifié et répète les stéréotypes. Qu’est-ce qui fait la contemporanéité d’une forme ? » explique Denis Paumier. Ce jongleur virtuose, incurable curieux toujours en quête d’une nouveauté à découvrir, s’est allié avec le finlandais Maksim Komaro pour remonter le temps à grandes enjambées, s’autorisant raccourcis et chemins buissonniers. Entourés sur scène d’Antoni Klemm et Sanna Silvennoinen, ils piochent dans le grand livre de la jongle : la virtuosité mythique d’Enrico Rastelli, le jonglage cubique de Jérôme Thomas, les enseignements d’Italo Medini, les culbutos de Thierry Dussout, les effets graphiques de Thierry André ou encore la tradition du cabaret des années 60… Tous ces éléments dialoguent entre hommage et parodie dans un tourbillon de couleurs, de musiques et de costumes. Voilà un Espresso sacrément tonique !
