Un son jazz gros comme ça, une séduisante sensibilité rock et de subtils moods électroniques bien dosés… Ce trio suédois est l’un des phénomènes du jazz européen de ces dernières années : gros vendeur de disques partout en Europe et visiteur inspiré de la forme traditionnelle piano-contrebasse-batterie. Après 15 ans de concerts et plus d’une dizaine d’albums, le pianiste Esbjörn Svensson et ses deux complices sont considérés en Suède comme un véritable groupe de pop-rock. « À l’origine, notre trio s’inspirait de Bill Evans, Keith Jarrett, Miles Davis. Au fil des albums, notre façon de travailler, de faire sonner nos instruments et de composer s’est affirmée. Nous possédons une mine -la mine E.S.T !- et nous creusons, sans regarder autour de nous. Nous ne savons pas ce que nous cherchons. La musique, seule, nous indique le chemin. La mine est inépuisable. Les idées sont toujours là, il suffit de prendre soin d’elles. Et de descendre dans son âme pour concevoir tout un univers » confiait le leader lors de la sortie de « Tuesday Wonderland », dernier album en date du groupe. Avec Magnus Ölström (batterie) et Dan Berglund (contrebasse). Un trio télépathique et fusionnel.
