Le nom de la compagnie de David Farjon, « Légendes urbaines », indique d’emblée le programme de son projet théâtral : débusquer les mises en récit de ce qu’on appelle communément la banlieue. Dans son précédent spectacle, Ce que je reproche le plus résolument à l’architecture française, c’est son manque de tendresse, son collectif confrontait l’utopie architecturale des zones urbaines prioritaires à la réalité de ces quartiers. Cette fois, la compagnie filtre la banlieue par le prisme des médias. C’est un reportage de 2016 sur un café prétendument interdit aux femmes à Sevran qui a déclenché leur réflexion. « Depuis longtemps déjà, journaux télévisés et reportage au ton angoissant façonnent nos représentations et ont produit un mythe prégnant : celui de quartiers populaires dits ‘dangereux’ ou ‘désœuvrés’ » remarque David Farjon. Si on peut dater cette construction de 1981, date des affrontements aux Minguettes, à Vénissieux près de Lyon, le titre du spectacle emprunte à une phrase de Roger Gicquel prononcée dans un JT de 1976. Sur scène, les comédiens mènent l’enquête à travers les personnages qu’ils incarnent, tandis que le spectateur entre dans une rédaction de journal télévisé, assistant à la fabrique de l’information.
