Pourquoi avez-vous choisi de vous emparer du mythe de Prométhée, et à la date de 2071?
Jacques Kraemer : Relisant l’ensemble des tragédies grecques, il m’est apparu comme une évidence que Prométhée était le mythe approprié pour évoquer les hantises de notre vécu d’aujourd’hui et les angoisses que nous pouvons légitimement nourrir pour un avenir assez proche… D’où ce choix de situer l’action de ce nouveau Prométhée en l’an 2071 – 200 ans auparavant, Rimbaud et ses camarades pensaient renverser le Veau d’or et monter à l’assaut du ciel…
Comment avez-vous déterminé le choix des autres personnages pour construire votre pièce?
J. K. : J’ai repris en grande partie la structure inventée par Eschyle dans Prométhée enchaîné. Il y aura donc les apparitions successives
des Océanides, concentrées par moi en un seul personnage, Océe,
de Io, transformée en animale femelle et poursuivie par Zeus,
de Hermès, enfin, l’émissaire de Zeus.
Ce théâtre très politique peut-il participer à une prise de conscience? Pensez-vous qu’il soit déjà trop tard pour sauver les “microbes cosmiques“ ?
J. K. : Le théâtre peut participer à une prise de conscience, de façon plus indirecte que les médias, études, documentaires etc… en s’adressant à la sensibilité d’un spectateur déjà informé et conscient. Comment peut agir le théâtre? Peut-être en suscitant une émotion qui ouvre l’être et le rende davantage sensible au destin et à la parole de l’Autre, de tous les autres. A chaque jour sa catastrophe, telle cette marée noire au large des côtes de Louisiane ! De plus en plus de catastrophes auront lieu au cours du siècle. Tout est en route : réchauffement climatique, extinction d’espèces, pollution gigantesque, inégalités planétaires croissantes. On ose encore espérer une réaction de survie de l’espèce humaine qui éviterait le suicide collectif.

Comment concevez-vous ce puissant maître des Olympiens, bientôt renversé par un veau, idole cosmique ?
J. K. : Le système du Maître des Olympiens ( plus fort que les individus manipulés, asservis, broyés) a déjà renoncé à ses propres valeurs et laissé place au veau d’Or, non seulement “toujours debout”, mais envahissant tout. L’appât de l’argent est clairement aujourd’hui la cause des malheurs publics et des désastres.
Quelle scénographie avez-vous imaginée pour ce spectacle?
J. K. : Au premier plan sur un petit plateau de théâtre se tiendra un Prométhée d’âge canonique. Il verra apparaître comme en rêve, derrière un tulle : Océe dans une brume aquatique, Io, mi-femme, mi-fauve dans une cage; Hermès devant un cercle solaire incandescent. On recherche une sorte de statisme spectaculaire qui soit un tremplin pour un jeu d’une vaste amplitude entre éclats lyriques et retenue très intériorisée.
